Pavers & Hardscaping for Peoria Homeowners
Peoria's paver work splits cleanly by geography. In north Peoria, communities like Vistancia and Sonoran Mountain Ranch sit on rocky, sloping desert where a deck often needs steps, a raised spa surround or a retaining wall to work with the land. Southern Peoria is flatter and more established, and the typical request there is replacing an aging concrete deck with something cooler.
AZ Pool Concepts builds both kinds of projects with travertine, porcelain and concrete pavers. We handle the excavation, base, grading, steps and walls along with the paver surface, so one crew is responsible for how everything fits together. We're a family-owned, licensed Arizona ROC contractor under owner Shawn Walker serving the West Valley as well as our East Valley home base. Call (480) 241-9708 for a free on-site visit.

Hillside Decks in North Peoria, Cooler Replacements in the South
In north Peoria, buried rock and grade changes shape every hardscape plan. We dig out rock that sits inside the base area, then build level surfaces with compacted base, paver steps with even risers and retaining walls where the yard drops away. Sloped lots move a lot of water downhill in a monsoon storm, so we look at where runoff enters from above and give it a path around the paved areas instead of across them. Hillside lots here can carry additional grading review with the City of Peoria, which we build into the schedule whenever decking comes with a new pool.
Those newer northern communities are HOA-governed with design review, so a new paver driveway or entry walk out front needs an approval step first. We prepare the layout, specs and samples for that submittal and fit the schedule around it.
Southern Peoria is mostly 1980s and 1990s neighborhoods on flatter ground, and the pools from that era are due for resurfacing, new tile and coping, and a cooler deck. We remove the old slab and coping, rebuild the base where it has settled, and set travertine or light-toned pavers that pair with the new pool finish. The ground is easier to work than up north, so the focus shifts to clean demolition, a solid base and a slope that carries splash-out and rain toward the yard. Mature neighborhoods also tend to have established landscaping, and we protect it while the crew works.

Common Pavers & Hardscaping Projects in Peoria
Retaining walls and paver steps
On sloped north Peoria lots, we build retaining walls and stepped paver landings that turn a falling grade into usable, level space for a deck, patio or seating area, with drainage behind each wall to relieve water pressure.
Raised spa and pool deck surrounds
Hillside pools often include a raised spa. We wrap the spa and pool in travertine or pavers with matching coping and finish the raised edges so the deck and walls read as one design.
Deck replacements in south Peoria
For 1980s and 1990s pools, we replace cracked concrete decks and old coping with cooler travertine or light pavers, timed with resurfacing and new tile so the whole pool edge is redone at once.
