Custom Pools for Mesa Homeowners

Mesa gives a pool builder two very different jobs. On the west and central side, we're working on large, flat lots with easy access. On the east side, near Las Sendas and the Red Mountain foothills, the ground gets rocky and the lots start to slope. AZ Pool Concepts builds custom pools on both, and the design starts with which kind of lot you have.

Each pool is drawn for the property: shape, depth, Baja shelf, spa, water features, lighting and equipment. We use finishes and equipment that hold up to Mesa's heat and dry air, and we manage the City of Mesa permit and every inspection along the way. Shawn Walker, our owner, brings more than 18 years of Arizona pool construction to each project.

Two Kinds of Mesa Lots, Two Kinds of Pools

West and central Mesa sit on deep former farmland soil, and the homes there mostly date from the 1960s to the 1980s. Lots are large and flat with room to bring equipment straight into the backyard, which makes excavation fairly predictable. Plenty of these homes already have a pool, and a lot of our work on that side of town is resurfacing and equipment upgrades. When a yard is still open, though, it can handle a generous pool with a wide deck, a spa and space left over for a patio or shade structure.

East Mesa changes the approach. Around Las Sendas and the Red Mountain foothills, buried rock and grade changes affect how we dig and where the pool can sit. A sloped yard might call for a raised spa, a retaining wall or a pool set to take advantage of a view. Newer east-side communities like Eastmark are HOA-governed, so architectural review goes on the calendar before construction. Rock removal can add time to an east-side dig, and we tell you that before the schedule is set.

On every Mesa project, the City of Mesa Development Services Department issues the permit, and the pool barrier gets checked at final inspection. We design the barrier into the plan from the start so that last inspection isn't a scramble. Our crews also work in Dobson Ranch, Superstition Springs, Alta Mesa and the rest of the city.

Common Custom Pools Projects in Mesa

Hillside and View-Lot Pools

East Mesa properties near Las Sendas and Red Mountain often need a pool designed around slope and rock. We plan the excavation, retaining features and spa placement so the pool sits well on the grade and faces the best view from the yard.

Full Backyards for Newer Homes

Newer east-side homes often come with a bare yard. We build the pool along with paver decking, walkways and desert landscaping, so the whole backyard is designed in one pass and the deck drains away from the house.

Large-Lot Pools in Central Mesa

Where an older central Mesa home has never had a pool, the big flat lot leaves room for a larger custom design, a separate spa and wide paver decking. Easy equipment access keeps the excavation straightforward on these properties.

FAQ

Custom Pools in Mesa: Questions

Who issues pool permits in Mesa?
Permits for pools and structures in Mesa come from the city's Development Services Department. We handle plan submittal, the permit and every inspection from excavation through final.
What does Mesa check at the final pool inspection?
Mesa enforces pool barrier requirements at final inspection, so fencing, gates and other barrier elements need to be in place and compliant. We include the barrier in the design so it is ready when the inspector arrives.
Is it harder to build a pool in east Mesa?
It takes more planning. Rocky ground and grade changes around Las Sendas and the Red Mountain foothills can slow excavation and affect where the pool goes, while the farmland soil in west and central Mesa digs much more easily.
Do I need HOA approval for a pool in Eastmark?
Eastmark and other newer east Mesa communities are HOA-governed, so expect an architectural review before construction. We can prepare the drawings your HOA asks for along with the city permit set.
