Pool Resurfacing for Mesa Homeowners
West and central Mesa have one of the largest stocks of aging pools in the East Valley. Homes there date mostly from the 1960s through the 1980s, and plenty of their pools are well past due for a new surface. When plaster turns chalky, rough or blotchy, or starts flaking near the steps, the fix is to drain the pool and put a new finish on the shell.
AZ Pool Concepts handles that work all over Mesa. We are a family-owned company out of San Tan Valley, licensed with the Arizona ROC, and Shawn Walker has run pool and outdoor projects for over 18 years. A Mesa resurfacing job with us usually covers the interior finish plus any tile and coping that have worn out. Call (480) 241-9708 and we will come take a look.

What Mesa's Older Pools Usually Need
On a west Mesa pool, the finish is usually only one part of the job. Pools from that era often have cracked or loose coping, waterline tile with heavy calcium buildup, and plaster worn thin over the steps and benches. Since the pool is already empty, that is the time to deal with all of it. The large, flat lots in Dobson Ranch, Alta Mesa and similar neighborhoods usually give us easy access, which keeps prep and cleanup simple.
Most owners of these older pools end up choosing between quartz and pebble. Quartz gives a smooth feel and a wide color range at a moderate price, and it holds up better than standard plaster under Arizona sun and chemistry. Pebble costs more but resists hard-water staining best, which matters with the mineral-heavy water the whole Valley deals with. For a classic blue look on an older ranch-style home, a light quartz or light pebble is a common pick.
East Mesa is a different market. Pools around Las Sendas and the Red Mountain foothills are generally newer, and in HOA communities like Eastmark a color change may need association review before work starts. Wherever the pool is, we drain it on a schedule that limits how long the empty shell sits in the sun, then start the new water chemistry carefully to protect the fresh surface.

Common Pool Resurfacing Projects in Mesa
Full interior refresh
Older Mesa pools typically get a complete package: drain, chip out failing plaster, repair cracks, and apply a new quartz or pebble finish. Steps, benches and swim-outs are refinished at the same time so the whole pool looks consistent.
Tile and coping replacement
Calcium-caked waterline tile and coping that has cracked or come loose are common on 1960s to 1980s pools. We replace both while the pool is drained so the new surface and the new edge are finished together.
East Mesa HOA projects
In Eastmark and other HOA communities, a change to the finish or tile color may need association review. We pull together samples and product details for that submittal and schedule the work once approval is in.
