Pool Remodeling for Scottsdale Homeowners

Plenty of Scottsdale pools still wear the finishes they were given in the 1990s, with plaster colors, tile and equipment that feel out of step with the house around them. AZ Pool Concepts takes those pools and brings them up to the level Scottsdale homeowners expect: pebble interiors, new tile and stone coping, automation that runs everything from a phone, and decking that suits the architecture.

Our owner, Shawn Walker, has more than 18 years of pool construction and remodeling experience across the Valley, and our family-owned team is licensed by the Arizona ROC. A Scottsdale remodel starts with a free consultation at your home, where we review the pool, the equipment and any HOA guidelines before we write up a scope. Reach us at (480) 241-9708.

Luxury Pool Remodels from Old Town to North Scottsdale

The typical Scottsdale remodel we see is a 1990s pool with a plaster interior that has lost its color, tile that no longer suits the home, and equipment that predates variable-speed pumps and app control. Replacing that interior with a pebble finish, updating the tile and coping, and adding automation for the pump, heater, spa and lighting is the core of most of our projects here. Homeowners with an integrated spa often have us rework it in the same project so the pool and spa match.

Lot size changes how we stage the work. In Old Town, compact lots mean we plan carefully where the dumpster, materials and hoses go so the job stays tidy for the people next door. Larger North Scottsdale properties have the room, but north of the 101 the ground turns to decomposed granite and buried boulders, and hillside grades come into play if a remodel adds a new spa, wall or deck extension that needs footings. Rock removal is part of the plan in those cases, not a surprise halfway through.

Most master-planned communities in Scottsdale have active HOAs with design review, and DC Ranch, Grayhawk and Troon require architectural approval before work begins. New tile colors, deck materials, raised walls and fire features are all visible changes, so we prepare the HOA design package along with any City of Scottsdale permit the scope requires, including the added review for hillside lots. Replacing an aging deck with premium travertine or natural stone is a common part of these projects, and we select coping to match so the edge and deck finish together.

Common Pool Remodeling Projects in Scottsdale

Pebble Interior Upgrades

Dated 1990s plaster is the surface we replace most often in Scottsdale. A pebble interior has a richer look and texture, and the color you choose sets the tone of the water against travertine decking and desert landscaping.

Automation and Equipment

We replace older pumps, filters and heaters, then add a controller so the pump, heater, lights, spa and water features run from one app, with schedules you can set for summer and winter use.

Integrated Spa and Stone Deck Refresh

Many Scottsdale remodels rework an existing integrated spa with new tile and a cleaner spillover, then finish with a premium travertine or stone deck and coping chosen so the spa, pool edge and patio all match.

FAQ

Pool Remodeling in Scottsdale: Questions

Does my Scottsdale HOA need to approve a pool remodel?
In communities like DC Ranch, Grayhawk and Troon, architectural approval is required before work begins. We prepare the HOA design package so it can be reviewed alongside any city permit.
Can you replace a 1990s plaster finish with pebble?
Yes. We drain the pool, prepare the old surface and apply the new pebble interior, and we usually update tile and coping in the same project.
Is a remodel more complicated on a hillside lot in Scottsdale?
It can be if the work adds a structure such as a spa, retaining wall or deck extension. Hillside and sloped lots carry additional City of Scottsdale review, and we account for that in the plans.
Can automation be added to an older Scottsdale pool?
Usually, though some older pumps and heaters have to be replaced to work with a controller. We check compatibility during the consultation and tell you what can stay.
